What aftermarket bumper can work both for the city and for off-road?

Charlie Flint | 24 November, 2025

I know that usually such bumpers are installed specifically for off-road driving. But who is that for? For people who have 5 cars to choose from? I have one car, and I want to drive safely off-road and also comfortably in the city. Are there options?

I read that modern aftermarket bumpers can be very different, made from different materials. And I’m sure there are some combined options where you can get both. Basically, get advice either in the store or in a repair shop.

Yes, a lot depends on the material of the bumper. I probably wouldn’t choose aluminum anyway, because it doesn’t make much sense. Too flimsy, even though stronger than a factory bumper. Steel is too heavy, though the strongest. If I wanted to shop durable Ranch Hand bumpers, I’d go with composite. Light enough, corrosion-resistant, good for city and light off-road.
